Q: What’s this about rock legend Slash coming to Sioux Falls?

Charles C. Brennan: That’s right! He’s coming to hear a concert put on by the kids at the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy on Sept. 28, 2013. I met Slash, founding member of the legendary band Guns N’ Roses last year when he opened for KISS, and told him about the academy. He just got really excited.

Q: Tell us more about the Academy.

Charles C. Brennan: It’s the first and only free music program for the Boys & Girls Clubs children of the Sioux Empire. I was privileged to found it in 1996. Slash was so impressed that on the spot he decided he wanted to show his support for the kids. He’ll be the first bona fide rock star to actually see their concert and watch them perform.

Q: And will he play with them?

Charles C. Brennan: That’s the really amazing part. When he heard that one of the bands was performing the Guns N’ Roses version of “Knocking on Heaven’s Door,” he volunteered to get up and jam with the kids. Can you imagine how that kind of experience is going to impact these young rock musicians? They’ll never forget it and it could change their lives forever. It’s going to be totally incredible.
